Web browsing will never be the same. Chrome for Android is getting a revolutionary update, one that transforms reading into a dynamic and engaging listening experience. Forget the classic “read aloud” feature, because Google is raising the bar with a new function that turns web articles into genuine podcasts.
Listen to the web like a podcast
The new feature is called “Audio Overview” and it’s based on artificial intelligence. Instead of just reading a text in a robotic voice, Chrome’s AI analyzes the webpage and generates an audio summary in the style of a podcast. It’s like having two AI presenters summarizing the key points of an article, turning any block of text into an interactive and easy-to-follow conversation. This new feature, spotted by our colleagues at Android Authority in the stable version of the browser, suggests that its rollout is underway for all users.
How it works and where to find it
Activating this feature is simple. All you have to do is open a webpage, tap the three-dot icon in the top right corner, and select “Listen to this page”. Here you’ll find the new “Audio Overview” option. An additional button, located next to the playback speed option in reading mode, will allow you to switch between traditional voice reading and the new podcast mode.
A step forward in Google’s AI
This isn’t the first time Google has experimented with creating AI-powered audio content. The feature already debuted in the NotebookLM app, which paved the way for this technology, and in March it was also integrated into Gemini. Its arrival on Chrome was only the logical next step, making the web even more accessible and versatile for all users. Whether you’re jogging, driving, or simply relaxing, you can now “read” your favorite articles in a completely new way.
